The new revision of the VFR “i” further incorporates the VF concept into the EAW product line. Black versions of the VFR “i” series offer side handles and a handle designed into the rear of the cabinet. A white installation-only version comes without handles or a pole-mount cup.
The VFR129i two-way full-range speaker system features a 12-inch, vented, direct-radiating low-frequency cone transducer and a 1.75-inch voice-coil, 1-inch exit high-frequency compression driver loaded with a large, square, 90x rotatable 60 or 60x45 coverage pattern horn built on the classic MK Series horns. These horns offer exceptional high-frequency dispersion, and their square shape allows users to "twist the box around the horn" to maintain directivity in a horizontal configuration. The standard horn can be field-replaced with an optional 60x45 horn. This change incorporates passive filter tuning to maintain consistent acoustic response and smooth beamwidth throughout the crossover region.
Because the VF Series full-range (VFR/VFM) systems use HF sections similar to those developed for the MK Series, EAW engineers could employ the same revolutionary “beamwidth-matching” internal passive crossover/filter networks that distinguish the MK Series from all other two-way systems. When powered by an EAW-specified amplifier or through a UX Series digital signal processor, the VFR129i can enjoy the benefits of EAW Focusing, a technology that eliminates the inherent time-domain anomalies of any loudspeaker. The black version of the VFR129i includes traditional portable features such as a pole-mount cup, a 4-terminal NL4 parallel connector, a barrier strip connector, an optional transformer, and handles that accept accessory covers for permanent installation. The white, installation-only versions omit the handles and pole-mount cup, but include an NL4 connector, a barrier strip connector, an optional transformer, and multiple mounting points. The new design leaves the cabinet sides completely smooth and attractive. Optional mounting hardware is available for pre-configured arrays with VFS subwoofer systems.
