ADI2DACFS (PZA)

The ADI-2 FS is a compact and extremely flexible 2-channel high-end AD/DA converter. The small 9.5" unit offers first-class AD/DA conversion to/from SPDIF, AES, and ADAT, up to 192 kHz. Its ability to use SPDIF, AES, and ADAT formats provides exceptional compatibility. Whatever you need, just plug and play!

Highlights

Balanced analog inputs and outputs, headphone monitoring, SteadyClock FS for optimal conversion quality, 3-stage hardware input and output level control, and additional DD and AA modes make the ADI-2 FS a versatile tool and flexible problem solver. Its professional-class sound also qualifies it as an extension to other premium converters.

The ADI-2 FS is equipped with two servo-balanced analog line inputs via XLR/headphone combo connectors, balanced XLR and unbalanced headphone connectors usable simultaneously, a front-adjustable high-power headphone output, an ADAT-compatible optical SPDIF I/O, and a coaxial SPDIF I/O (RCA, AES/EBU compatible). These extensive connectivity options provide more flexible and uncompromising signal transmission.

Reference class digital clock

The analog inputs utilize the advanced circuit design of the acclaimed ADI-2 Pro, delivering exceptionally low noise and distortion, as well as extended frequency response. Three different settings for input and output levels provide perfect compatibility in the analog domain. Another highlight is SteadyClock FS , RME's latest clock technology for maximum jitter suppression and minimal self-jitter. It guarantees excellent sound quality completely independent of the quality of the current reference clock. The ADI-2 FS also uses the conversion technology of the ADI-2 Pro: the AK557x family and the AK4490 not only offer a sampling rate of 192 kHz and the lowest distortion, but also a dynamic range of 120 dBA.

But the ADI-2 has more to offer than just tremendous sound. It also provides exciting digital connectivity. Its RCA SPDIF coaxial I/O has switchable channel status to make it fully AES/EBU compatible (cable adapter required). The TOSLINK optical I/O can handle up to 192 kHz and also serves as ADAT I/O, even at 192 kHz. Operation with SPDIF input and ADAT output or vice versa is supported in both AD/DA and DD modes.

The clear layout and distinctive labeling of the front panel with its functional buttons, informative status display, 6-LED level meter, and uncluttered rear panel make it easy to operate the unit right out of the box.

Unexpected versatility in format conversion

With the input selection set to DIG, the device functions as a digital format converter with simultaneous monitoring. The AD converter is disabled, the DA converter is still used to monitor the digital input signal, at the rear outputs and at the headphone output. Format conversion is possible between all options: coaxial SPDIF (or AES) with Professional or Consumer status, as well as ADAT.

The ANA output selection connects the analog output circuit directly to the analog input circuit. The DA converter is no longer active. The AD converter further converts the analog input signal to SPDIF (AES) or ADAT, with coaxial SPDIF and optical ADAT outputs available simultaneously. This 'analog bypass' allows the ADI-2 FS to be used as an analog preamplifier (line level only). Gain and attenuation can be achieved by adjusting input and output level, or even completely variable when the VOL potentiometer is inserted. In this mode, the ADI-2 FS supports analog levels up to +22 dBu. In addition, it can function as a balanced to unbalanced converter and vice versa.

The front panel knob adjusts the volume of the headphone output. It can also be inserted into the rear signal path using a simple key combination, so that the level of the rear line outputs can be continuously adjusted like the headphone output. The choice of three hardware levels remains available, allowing for better matching of the desired levels on the front and rear outputs.

High-power headphone output²

The ADI-2 FS uses a scaled-down version of the ADI-2 Pro's Extreme Power output stage. With a power of up to 0.7 watts per channel, an output impedance of 0.1 ohms, a maximum output level of +19 dBu and a very low THD (-110 dB), the High Power² circuit is universally applicable. A relay ensures click-free switching on and off.

Power supply

Power is supplied via an included external switching power supply with lockable connector. Thanks to a wide operating voltage range of 9 to 15 volts, the ADI-2 FS can be easily operated with a battery or rechargeable battery and is therefore also suitable for mobile use. It is also fully suitable, for example, for galvanic isolation in laboratory or measurement applications.
